Overview of the foundation

Al-Muraqib Foundation, established in 2018, aims to become, through the vigour of youth, the premier institution advancing democracy and human rights in Iraq, by providing knowledge resources, building leaders, mobilizing crowds, as well as assisting in democratic reform and influencing policies and politics.  The name of the foundation (translates into English as “The Observer”), embodies the core value in which we believe, achieving the goal of popular observation, and working hand in hand for a more prosperous and humane Iraq.

In Al-Muraqib Foundation we commit to investing in Iraqi youth, protecting democracy and human rights, and preserving our collective spirit. We take pride in what we do to improve the performance of many Iraqi youths in the areas of democracy and human rights by giving them opportunities and allowing to enrich their society.

The headquarters of Al-Muraqib Foundation is situated in Baghdad. Our Offices are mainly located in Al-Karrada and Al- A’miriya districts, with about 50 volunteers working on programs that cover a wide range of areas in Baghdad. Nevertheless, we intend to have our programs and activities cover other provinces of Iraq as soon as possible.

Vision

Al-Muraqib Foundation aspires to strengthening the steadfastness of Iraqis as citizens of a country characterized by independence, freedom, and democracy. An Iraq where citizens enjoy dignity, prosperity, and progress, and in which they can achieve self-realization by ensuring that all citizens have equal opportunities for putting their energy and capabilities to effect in a distinctive and creative manner.

Mission

Through systematic identification of the needs and priorities of the Iraqi society and work on finding the sound mechanisms to benefit from the available funding sources, Al-Muraqib foundation seeks to be the leading Iraqi development institution in the areas of democracy and human rights. Its contribution would distinctively lead to the development of capacities of youth, preservation of their heritage and identity, supporting their living culture and building civil society.

Values

At Al-Muraqib for Democracy and Human Rights, our values serve as the foundation for our mission and guide our actions, decisions, and engagements. These principles define our commitment to democratic governance, human rights, and social justice in Iraq.

We Protect People

Humanitarian approach

01

Respect

We work to ensure that all people can enjoy the rights, protections, and opportunities guaranteed to them in applicable conventions and laws and seek to combat discrimination in all forms.

02

Inclusion

We ask beneficiaries for their consensual participation in the planning and implementation of interventions, as well as their perspectives in assessing the outcomes. Our collaborations with people in distress ultimately seek to utilize and strengthen their ability to cope without assistance in the future.

03

Preserving dignity

The people we work with are strong, dignified, and resourceful. Most are able and willing to fend for themselves. But sometimes, when a person has lost everything, it can be hard to retain a sense of dignity and confidence. We work with them to make sure that the support they and their families receive is adjusted to their particular needs.

04

Independence and neutrality

Remaining strictly neutral when it comes to party politics. This also means that in conflict settings our humanitarian work is predicated on the principle of independence and neutrality in regard to the conflicting

05

Rebuilding futures

When children witness terrible events, it’s not easy to help them cope. But we find ways to guide them forward. With our education, vocational training, and community activities, children and youth can learn and play. Adults can socialise, recover, and earn a living.

06

Honesty and transparency

We are honest and open about what we do and about the choices we make and if a situation may exceed our ability to provide help. We strive for successful and responsible joint efforts with all beneficiaries, donors, partners, and others.
